In a major win for election integrity and American sovereignty, the House of Representatives passed the “Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act” (SAVE Act) on Thursday—legislation that would block non-citizens from voting in federal elections by requiring documentary proof of U.S. citizenship.
That’s right: after years of warnings about open borders, mail-in ballots, and foreign influence, Republicans are finally taking action to secure our elections—something Democrats clearly have no interest in doing.
The SAVE Act would amend the 1993 National Voter Registration Act to ensure that only U.S. citizens can register to vote in federal elections. States would be required to verify proof of citizenship before accepting any voter registration application. Acceptable forms of ID include REAL ID-compliant identification, military ID, U.S. passports, birth certificates, and naturalization documents.
Common Sense? Dems Call It ‘Racist’
Conservatives see the bill as a no-brainer. If you have to show ID to buy alcohol or board a plane, why shouldn’t you prove citizenship to vote in a federal election?
But predictably, Democrats and their media allies are having a meltdown—screaming “racism” instead of offering real arguments. They claim the bill is “discriminatory” and “unnecessary,” even though non-citizen voting is already technically illegal.
What they conveniently forget to mention is this: there’s no actual enforcement mechanism in place to prevent illegal registration. The current system operates on the honor code—something that’s laughably easy to exploit in an age of open borders and lawless sanctuary cities.
“This bill is essential to restoring trust in our elections,” said Jenny Beth Martin, Honorary Chairman of Tea Party Patriots Action. “If Americans can’t trust that only citizens are voting, our democracy is in serious jeopardy.”
The bill also empowers private citizens to sue corrupt election officials who register voters without proper documentation—and it brings criminal penalties for those who violate the law.
Why Would Democrats Oppose This?
That’s the real question. If Democrats truly believe that only citizens should vote, they should have no problem with requiring proof. But their opposition tells you everything you need to know.
They’d rather leave the door open for non-citizen votes—because that’s how they stay in power.
This is about protecting the vote of every legal American citizen, and stopping the Left’s attempt to dilute the voice of the people by padding voter rolls with those who have no legal right to cast a ballot.
